In the mid-1950s, Victor Alvarez came to New York City from Puerto Rico at the age of sixteen. Victor started his own gym out of a basement in the Lower East Side and later moved to his best known location on 6th street in Alphabet City. This gym became a cornerstone of the local neighborhood and a safe space for gym enthusiasts and community members alike. Victor’s hand-built machines left a lasting impression on the world of fitness and his love for others can still be felt throughout the streets of New York City.
